Partnership with Renewal Workshop:

Our brand partners with The Renewal Workshop to add new products made from old Utility Thread garments to add to our assortment. These items are accessories that fit into our customers lifestyle, and are just as useable and practical as their utility clothing. From tote bags made of our utility jacket, to tool belts made from our pants, to utility aprons, these items are a must have for any guest who shops the Utility Thread brand to fit their productive and creative lifestyle. We gather returned garments from our store drop boxes and send them to our manufacturers, who then determine where each garment should go next to maximize its lifespan. The Renewal Workshop works with our Target designers to create products that both add value and another source of revenue for our brand, as well as another circularly designed product that our customers can be proud to buy and use.

Gently worn garments re-sold in stores:

According to a ThredUp resale report, 64% of people do/are willing to shop secondhand, making thrifting a rising trend in our world. Our garments are designed to last for multiple lifetimes, however we understand that some consumers may only wear them a handful of times or wear them for low mess/stress activities before they are ready to bring their garments back to our stores. We take these gently used garments, send them back to our manufacturers to be cleaned and re-tagged, and then send them back to our stores for the next guest to purchase and love.

Compost:

For products that are returned to use and have been so loved they are no longer useable as is, we still don't send them to the landfill. We instead disassemble our products and remove the metal/plastic/zippers to be reused or recycled. We then take the 100% cotton textile components (the compostable components) and shred them into tiny strips of fabric. The shreds are then shipped to our cotton farmers who are supplied with a composting guide and the materials necessary to compost the textiles into healthy soil. This soil is then used to grow the next batch of cotton used to make your new favorite Utility Thread product. Click here to check out our reverse logistics plan and our composting guide for farmers (and anyone else who wants to start composting)!

What if i love my utility thread garment too much to part with it?

Purchase our patch kit:

The beauty of our Utility Thread garments is that they are made to last, and therefore can easily be repaired. Whether that is a rip in the knee or a button falling off, we make it easy for our customers to repair their products and continue working, creating, and living in their favorite Utility Thread piece. Our brand offers patch kits that can be purchased in store that have everything you could need to repair your own garment. The kits are $12.00 a piece and contain a large and small patch, a spare button, and a needle and thread. Not sure how to sew on your own patch? Check our our quick tutorial, sew on your patch, and hop in on the #homespun trend. According to a WGSN report “With growing awareness of recycling and upcycling, consumers start to opt for pieces that reuse or mimic the reuse of fabrics. Moving into the new aesthetic, patched and mended effects embrace a #homespun quality and elevate repair looks”. You'll be the height of both fashion and sustainability.
